Smyth and Eastgate Ready to Steal 2008 European Poker Awards

Aviation Club in Paris is all set to stage the 2008 European Poker Awards with the UK once again is confident enough to steal the show in the Award function. The judging and presentations will take place on January 15th, 2009 during the Euro Finals of Poker series.
On Friday, the nominees for the 2008 European Poker Awards, which are categorized into seven segments, were announced with prominent players representing more than one nomination category for their achievements in the past and current year. To top the list is Marty Smyth and Peter Eastgate. Smyth has been nominated under both the “Player of the Year” and “Tournament Performance of the Year” categories, and Eastgate has two nominations up his sleeves: Rookie of the Year and Best Tournament Performance.
“I'm very flattered to be nominated," said Smyth. "It's a great honour but I'm up against some very tough and worthy competition. Winning one of the awards would really be the icing on the cake for what was a very special year for me.” Both Smyth and Eastgate have won some of the major series this year including the $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha Championship at the WSOP and WSOP Main Event respectively.
Other poker players nominated for various categories are Neil Channing, Bertrand Grospellier, David Benyamine, Jesper Hougaard, Channing, Stephen Chidwick, Ivan Demidov, Davidi Kitai, Stefan Ruthenberg, Alexander Kostritsyn, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Andreas Krause, Sandra Naujoks, Isabel Mercier, Kara Scott, Annette Obrestad, Svetlana Gromenkova, Thomas Kremser, Sylvie Berlanger, Jonathan Raab, Simon Trumper, Madeleine Harper, Rob Yong, Gene Gioia, Jonathan Raab and Poker Stars Team: Francine Watson/Conrad Brunner/Mad Harper.
